Calvin Meek (Class of 1955) and the nominations committee have informed the AHAA Board that they have made the selection for the first 'Distinguished Alumni' recognition. The AHAA Board, in its February meeting, voted unanimously to ask them to hold the information so that the award can be presented at our Annual Alumni Golf Tournament luncheon on October 4th. So, the anticipation and the excitement will be building in coming months.
In the mean time, you need to get busy thinking about who should be singled out in the years ahead for this recognition. We have at least 60,000 alumni and not all of them have gone bad. In fact, most of them have gone on to be valued citizens of this republic, and some of them have distinguished themselves in their public lives in accounting, the arts, athletics, business, education, entertainment, government, healthcare, industry, law, literature, medicine, military, public service, religion, social justice, victims rights, or the sciences.
This method of recognizing classmates is not a search for those classmates who got filthy rich or so incredibly famous they don't care if we recognize them or not. This recognition is our way of pointing them out for having left Arvin High School and in some way gone out and made the world a better place for everyone of us to live in. I am certain that if you think about it, you can name a half dozen like that in short order.
Why not send us their names and let us begin the process to select them for recognition?
