On Saturday, October 4, 2008, Calvin Meek (Class of 1955) announced at the alumni golf tournament, that Dr. James 'Fizzer' Young (Class of 1956) would become the first distinguished alumni to be recognized by the Arvin High Alumni Association. Dr. Young has led a distinguished life as an athlete, educator, and community activist. His good works continue after his retirement as Chancellor of the Kern Community College District. Jim is very active in the Arvin High Alumni Association as well as devoting countless hours and money to the Arvin High School Constitution Team.
