Giving To The AHAA

GIVING THROUGH SUPPORTING MEMBERSHIPS:

Supporting memberships are what got us going and still provide a solid chunk of our annual support.  At $25 per year or $500 for a lifetime, they allow the Arvin High Alumni Association to carry on from week to week.  Currently there are an estimated 50,000 people who can claim being an alumnus of Arvin High School.  Please consider becoming one of the less than 1/2 of 1% of that number who send in that annual support.  It could be a huge source of donations...More than $1,000,000 a year if we could get 100% support.

GIVING THROUGH THE MASTER ENDOWMENT PLAN:

In the October 2007 AHAA Board meeting, a motion was 'made', 'seconded', and 'carried' unanimously to set aside $5,000 from the funds donated this past year to establish the Arvin High Alumni Association's 'General Endowment Fund'.  The General Endowment will be money set aside in a low-risk, secure investment, such as a 'Certificate of Deposit', where the 'principal' will remain untouched, and the 'interest alone' will be used to assist in funding scholarships.  There is no ultimate goal...There is an initial goal of $200,000 in order to yield enough interest annually to fund twenty, $400 scholarships.  This year the need was for 83 scholarships and we were able to fund just 28 (28/83 = 29%) scholarships...That's a better percentage than last year (19/79 = 24%), but still not good enough.  Our goal is to be able to provide a scholarship to every qualified applicant.

GIVING THROUGH INDIVIDUAL SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT PLANS:

On October 13, 2007, the Family and Friends of Rocky Handy (AHS Class of 1972) held their first fundraising dinner with the goal of raising $15,000 to endow a $600 per year memorial scholarship in Rocky's name.  Rocky's scholarship is the first 'endowed scholarship' and we hope not the last.  In every class that ever graduated from AHS, there was some one like Rocky.  Rocky's Family and Friends hope that every other class (almost 60 of them now) will take up the challenge to endow scholarships in the name of deceased classmates...
